In 1837, a scientist claimed that Swiss waterfalls, rivers, and lakes resonated in F major. The same key also resonates in Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, which expresses the joy of moving through nature.
Gabriella Smith from California was not supposed to become a composer at all. She wanted to study ecology or marine biology and learn about climate change. However, she became a composer. Her commissioned work Breathing Forests reflects the complex relationship between humans, forests, climate change, and fire.
